Chartered Insurance Institute (UK) Programme
This qualification is offered by the Chartered Insurance Institute. The Certificate in Insurance is a core qualification for insurance personnel working across all sectors of the industry.
The course provides a grounding in:
- basic insurance principles including the regulatory environment
- the key insurance disciplines of underwriting and claims
- popular products including motor, household, healthcare and packaged commercial insurances
- London market legislation, regulation, market practice and distribution for those starting work in or having dealings with this market.
The course also supports role-specific learning which will assist you in developing the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to succeed. By covering a broad range of core topics, the Certificate allows you to develop the knowledge and confidence you need before you begin to focus on your subsequent studies and specialise according to your ambitions and career requirements. This qualification is the first step towards becoming professionally qualified and, as such, its value is widely recognised by employers throughout the insurance industry.
Modules on offer in 2017/18:
Insurance, Legal & Regulatory (IF1)
This unit covers six essential topics, including the insurance market, legal principles, procedures and the major classes of insurance.
General insurance business (IF2)
This unit covers basic insurance products and practice, including underwriting and policy wordings, claims, customer service and information and communication technology.
Customer Service in Insurance (IF9)
This unit provides knowledge and understanding of customer service within the context of an insurance environment.
No formal entry requirements.
The Certificate is open to anyone, irrespective of educational background or experience. It is suitable for
a diverse range of people, including: those wishing to gain a broad understanding of insurance principles,
key disciplines and products; employees who have no formal insurance qualifications but wish to objectively
demonstrate insurance knowledge and understanding; and anyone working in specific technical claims handling or underwriting roles within a call or service centre environment.
Length: Candidates enrolling for this course will be required to study at least 40 – 60 hours per module.
